About The Signal

The Signal — Essays, ideas and old-school reporting for the independent-minded. We are a small, independent digital outlet, and we would rather tell you that plainly than pretend to be a legacy institution. What we lack in marble lobbies we make up for in a simpler promise: we will not waste your attention and we will not insult your intelligence.

The premise is old-fashioned. Report what happened. Verify it. Say clearly what we think about it — and label that part opinion. Never tell the reader what to conclude while pretending we are only describing. The great vice of modern media is not bias; it is bias wearing the costume of neutrality. Ours is stated on the front door: we publish essays and heterodox ideas because we think the interesting questions are precisely the ones respectable consensus has declared closed.

Everything here is written for people who want to think for themselves — not to be told they are right, and not to be recruited. If a piece of ours ever reads like a press release, we have failed, and you should say so.

The writers

The Signal is writer-driven. Every piece is signed by a house writer with a fixed beat, responsible for its voice and its judgment.

Method

Every fact requires at least two independent sources — an official primary source or a verified reference outlet — and every piece is checked against a second, independent review before it publishes. Our pieces are produced by a small desk with AI assistance, under those verification rules and a named editor's responsibility; nothing runs on a model's say-so. Photographs are archive images (Pexels), used for illustration and credited where applicable.

Corrections

Every piece is correctable. If you spot a factual error, we will correct it with a visible note on the piece itself, not a quiet edit. Right of reply: anyone named in our pages may request space to respond, and we will give it.

Publisher

The Signal is an independent publication of URPE AI Lab LLC, founded by Diego Urquijo. Editorial decisions are made by the newsroom.
