The red light had barely turned when one of the two men on the motorcycle climbed off and walked toward the pickup truck. No helmet. No mask. According to a witness who spoke to RPP Noticias, the man pulled a pistol and fired at least four times into the cab, killing the driver on the spot. Then he got back on the bike, and both men fled the wrong way onto the Vía de Evitamiento.
The victim was Jhon Luis Flores Guerrero, 23 years old. According to preliminary information reported by El Comercio, he was working as an informal transport driver when the sicarios intercepted him.
What makes the crime difficult to set aside is the geography. The shooting happened on Avenida 9 de Octubre in the Rímac district of Lima — a high-traffic corridor — within meters of both the División de Investigación de Asuntos Sociales of the National Police and the Rímac municipal building. A uniformed officer was reportedly at the intersection. A witness says he alerted that officer, who then borrowed a delivery motorcycle and gave chase. The killers were not apprehended.
'I saw that from the motorcycle, one got off — a heavy-set man, no helmet, nothing. Just like that, openly, he got off, pulled his pistol, shot the driver of the pickup and put about four bullets in him. He turned around, got back on the motorcycle, and they went back the wrong way onto the Vía de Evitamiento. I alerted the police officer, a young man who was there at the traffic light; he got on a delivery motorcycle and went after them,' the witness told RPP Noticias.
Agents from the Rímac precinct and forensic technicians from Criminalística arrived to secure the scene. Investigators say they are working to establish the motive and identify those responsible. No arrests have been announced.
